Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 27 May 2026

Please read these terms carefully before using HeatWave. By installing or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

If anything below is unclear, please email hefferapps@outlook.com and we'll explain.

What HeatWave is

HeatWave is an iOS app that watches your local weather forecast and the indoor temperature you provide via Apple's Shortcuts app, and helps you decide when to open or shut your windows during a heatwave. It is offered as-is, free to download, and run entirely on your device. It has no user accounts, no subscriptions, and no servers we operate.

Where these terms refer to "we", "us" or "our", that means the developer trading as Heffer Apps, based in the United Kingdom. "You" means whoever is using the app on a device they control. "The Service" means the HeatWave app and any related extensions and widgets.

Your licence to use HeatWave

We grant you a personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use HeatWave on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to extract the app's source code, except where this is permitted by law.

  • Redistribute, sell, sub-licence, or rent the app or its components.

  • Use the app in any way that breaks the law, infringes someone else's rights, or interferes with anyone else's use of it.

Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement also applies to HeatWave as a Mac App Store / App Store app. To the extent these terms conflict with Apple's EULA, Apple's EULA takes precedence for App Store-specific points.

In-app tips

HeatWave is free. It offers optional, one-time tips ("Buy me a coffee" / "Buy me a pint" / "Buy me dinner") as in-app purchases. There are no subscriptions, no recurring charges, and no paid features locked behind a paywall — tips are voluntary support, nothing more.

Tips are processed entirely by Apple via StoreKit. We don't see or store any payment information; we only learn whether the transaction succeeded. By tapping a tip, you agree to Apple's terms governing in-app purchases.

Refunds for tips are handled by Apple. If you'd like a refund, request it through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't issue tip refunds directly because we never receive the funds directly.

What the app needs from your device

HeatWave asks iOS for these permissions only when it needs them:

  • Location (when in use) — to fetch your local forecast via Apple WeatherKit.

  • Notifications — to alert you 30 minutes before a window-timing change.

  • Shortcuts integration — so the Record Indoor Temperature shortcut you build can hand a reading to the app.

You can withdraw any of these at any time in iOS Settings. HeatWave will continue to run with reduced functionality, or you can uninstall the app and everything it stored is removed with it.

For full detail on what data is or isn't collected, see our Privacy Policy.

Third-party services

HeatWave uses these Apple services, and only these:

  • Apple WeatherKit for the outdoor forecast.

  • Apple StoreKit for in-app tips.

  • Apple Shortcuts for the indoor temperature integration.

Apple's terms and privacy practices apply when you use those services through HeatWave. We're not responsible for outages, errors, or policy changes within Apple's services.

Feedback

If you send us suggestions, bug reports, or ideas — via the in-app feedback button or otherwise — we may use them to improve the app without owing you anything in return. By sending feedback you grant us a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use it. You're free to share the same feedback with anyone else (including competitors); we don't claim exclusivity over what you say to us.

No warranty

HeatWave is provided "as is" and "as available". Although we work hard to keep it accurate and useful, we don't promise that:

  • The forecast or indoor temperature shown will always be correct or current.

  • Notifications will always fire on time, or at all (iOS controls background scheduling and can defer them).

  • The app will be free of bugs, available without interruption, or compatible with every iOS version or device.

HeatWave is not a medical device, weather service, or safety system. Don't rely on it for decisions where being wrong matters — for example, life-or-death heatwave precautions. When the temperature outside genuinely threatens your health, consult official health and weather guidance from your government or trusted broadcaster.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising out of your use of (or inability to use) HeatWave — including lost data, lost profits, business interruption, or any kind of personal injury or property damage related to following or not following the app's suggestions.

Our total liability, in any circumstances, is limited to the greater of:

  • The amount you've actually paid us through the app (i.e. the value of any in-app tip you've sent), or

  • £25.

Some jurisdictions don't allow some of these limitations, so part of this section may not apply to you. Where that's the case, the limitations apply to the fullest extent the law allows.

Termination

You can stop using HeatWave at any time by uninstalling the app from your device. Doing so removes all of HeatWave's local data with it.

We may stop developing or distributing HeatWave at any time. If we do, this licence ends and the app may stop functioning. We don't owe you a refund of any tips you've given.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date above and mention the change in the app's release notes. Your continued use of the app after the updated terms become effective means you accept them.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country give you the right to bring proceedings locally.
